How To Setup A WordPress Alpha Site With Cloudways

This is a step by step guide with screenshots on how to deploy a site with WordPress Alpha with Cloudways

Getting Started

Currently we have integrated with Digital Ocean and Cloudways for hosting, this ensures very fast WordPress sites.

Digital ocean servers (or, droplets as they call them) cost $5 per month and these are good for single site server hosting.

However...

With Cloudways you can create servers to use for multiple domains at an affordable price. Currently i pay around $25 per month for 9 sites on a 2GB server.

Cloudways, which is a managed cloud hosting service, also we have integrated it with including Vultr as the hosting option deployed by WordPress Alpha.

Cloudways also takes care of server optimization, automatic backups, security and you can scale up any server at any time.
I have several sites on Cloudways with Vultr, and they are lightning fast.

How To Setup WordPress Alpha With Digital Ocean

If you want to use Digital Ocean, here are the steps (Cloudways step by step guide with screenshots is in the ''Before You Start''section)
Create an account with Digital Ocean
Add settings for digital ocean to WordPress Alpha by adding a token provided by them in your account settings
Add your WordPress Alpha license key
Follow the video below for deploying your first WordPress Alpha site.

How To Deploy Sites With The WordPress Alpha Template Using Digital Ocean

Here are the steps covered in the video:

Click on create site and add site name and URL
Choose Blog template, this can take about 10 minutes. (more templates will follow)
Once the process has finished you need to wait for your domain to propagate.
Once your site is live you MUST click on the 'Check DNS' button. This will install the SSL certificate and will fetch your WP Admin and FTP details.
Now you need to login to your site. After you login your domain should now be https - if not then logout and login again.
Now watch the video in the next section ''What to do when your site is live'' and follow the checklist underneath.

What To Do After Your Site Is Live

Here are the steps covered in the video:

Choose Your SEO Plugin. There are three preconfigured SEO plugins (Yoast, Rank Math and Squirrly). The settings have been done for each, choose the one you want, reconfigure any settings you might want to change, and delete the other two SEO plugins that you do not want to use.
Now Fill in your site's title and meta description. Focus your description on helping your click-through rate and make sure your main keyword is in the title.
Go to users tab and add a new admin user, this is important for other plugins like contact form, use an email that you monitor under users section if you want to receive contact form submissions.
You will see that i have added several Thrive plugins, Thrive is a premium membership, i use it for all my sites, however for you to use it you need to have membership with them. If you do not want to take membership with Thrive just delete ALL Thrive plugins and themes. Note** You can find gigs on Fiverr for installing Thrive with the seller's developer account, if you want to do that tell the seller you just need the license added as the plugins are already installed.
Choose your preferred Google Analytics plugin, you have a choice of Analytify and Site-Kit by Google. You must have a registered Google Analytics account and set up your website profiles to use with Analytify or you can connect from the plugin using Site-Kit by Google. Site-Kit by Google is the easiest to use as it will also connect your Google search console, if you just want fast integration use Site-Kit by Google.
If you choose to use the Ahrefs plugin which does content audits on your posts then you need to connect using a free Ahrefs account. Click on the Ahrefs tab on the sidebar and from choices you can choose to have content audits performed using a free account. After you have connected go into the plugin settings and set the Audit settings to 4 weeks and then connect to your Google analytics and search console account - It's fast and easy using their one click connect buttons.
Update any plugins or themes that need updating.
Go through the plugins that are active, deactivate and delete any that you do not want, then do the same for those that are not active.
You should now have a much leaner site in terms of number of plugins.
Note** Do not delete the all-in-one migration plugins as this creates auto backups for your site.
Delete any themes that you do not want to use, but leave one backup theme. The Good News Theme Is optimized as is the Generate Press Theme. The Generate Press Pro plugin is added already if you want to upgrade and use the pro version you need to buy a license from them.
To use Divi theme or Thrive theme builder you need a license. If you are normally using a specific premium theme then I suggest you install that and keep Generate Press as your backup theme.
In the plugins dashboard, go to ‘Auto-updates Disabled’ section, checkbox ALL PLUGINS, and in the drop down menu choose ‘enable Auto-updates’ These plugins will auto update when a new version is available.

NOTE**

Rank Math has settings done for sitemaps and Squirrly too, which is what i would advise to do. However, If you do not want to get premium versions of either you can use the APG Google Video Sitemap Feed (video sitemap plugin) installed on the template which is currently deactivated.

This plugin was built on top of Amit Argawal's xml sitemap for videos.

It has some more advanced features:

It practically does not require any type of configuration, so it works completely autonomously and automatically.
Automatically add all videos from YouTube, Vimeo and Dailymotion.
Supports all types of custom posts.
Automatic external data cache management of videos to speed up the creation of the sitemap-video.xml.
Email notification to the website administrator in case the video has been deleted or marked as private to edit the entry where it appears and delete the URL that is no longer valid.
It is fully compatible with multisite WordPress installations.
Automatically inform Google and Bing every time we publish a new post or page.
It automatically generates multiple sitemaps with a maximum of 50,000 videos for each of them.
